THURSDAY COMPETITION
The Thursday competition was ■continued at Victoria Domain in fine but cloudy weather yesterday afternoon. A feature of the day’s play was that both games were over by 4.30 o clock, United defeating Y.M.C.A. by oyer an innings, and Alhambra vanquishing Tc Rau by 32 runs, the winners in both matches securing 3-point wins. the remainder of the afternoon was filled in with, .practice igames.
UNITED v. Y.M.C.A
With six wickets down for 67 runs, Y.M.C.A. continued their second innings against United who had scored 191 on the opening day. Webster (17 not out) was absent, and the innings closed for 91. Y.M.C.A. followed on, and, with only five men present, were dismissed for 48 in their second essay, United thus winning by an innings and 52 runs. ALHAMBRA v. TE RAU. The match between the above teams on the turf wicket was concluded at Victoria. Domain yesterday, and resulted in a win outright for Alhambra by 30 runs. The game was remarkable for the very weak batting displayed throughout. In their last innings. Te Rau were left with only 102 runs to get to win, but even this comparatively easy task was beyond their powers, snd 71 runs was all the side could total, hatting two men short. J. H. Wack, the Te Rau captain, made a gallant effort to bring victory to his side, hut was caught at silly point after scoring 41 in good style. The following are the scores:
