WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

WAIPIKO BAY. Feb. 24

The monthly mooting of the Waiapu County Council was held on Wednesday last, February 23. There were present Councillors' K. S. Williams (chairman), A. B. Williams, T. S. Williams, T. E. Sherwood, and H. deLautour.

CORRESPONDENCE. The incoming correspondence considered was as follows :

From Mr. Dampney, re Hells’ track, the clerk was instructed to reply that the Council are doing all that the}’ can at present. From Mr. G. T. Williams Tapuweroa. It uvas decided to make the proposed connection. From Mr. L. E. Poole (Secretary of the Waiapu Racing Club), requesting that Wednesday, 2nd. March, be observed as a half-holiday instead of Thursday the 3rd. The Council decided to declare the same. Letters were also received from Messrs. Paratene and Ngata, re Native dog tax. From the Hon. R. McKenzie, stating his decision to extend his visit .to Waiapu if possible. From the Un-der-Secretary for Public Works respecting the road at Te Ari'um. From same re .grants. From the President of the Tairawhiti Land Board re dedicating the road through Ohinepoutea. From Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarding schedule, of thirds and fourths approved. From Valuation Department requesting advice re transfer of County properties. ENGINEER’S REPORT. Reports from the Engineer and Road Overseer were read and considered. Cr. A. B. Williams proposed that the Engineer interview Mr. Dunlop Smith with a view to releasing him from his .metalling contract.—'Seconded by Cr. Sherwood and carried.

The same Councillors also proposed and seconded that Hare Hautapu be again interviewed by the Engineer re the slaughterhouse at Waima, and the position explained. This was agreed to. MISCELLANEOUS.

Cr. deLautour proposed that the Councillors visit Mr. Biddles’ property respecting the proposed road to Whangapararoa.—- Seconded by Cr. Sherwood and carried.

The Chairman proposed that specifications of the work required at Waitahaia Road be completed as soon as possible.—Seconded by Cr. A. B. Williams and carried.

The Chairman proposed that the Councillors’ action in dealing with the metalling tenders be confirmed. —Seconded by Cr. Williams and carried.

The Engineer was authorised to obtain about- 800 yards of cyclone netting. The Chairman proposed that Mr. A. P. Durrant be appointed returning officer for the Waiapu County.—Seconded by Cr. deLautour and carried. Cr. deLautour proposed that tho slips in tho Pakiakanui Road be removed, and that tenders be called for metalling and fascining a portion of Mooney’s Road, cost to be defrayed by tho Government grant.when available. Seconded by Cr. Sherwood and carried.

Cr. deLautour proposed that the Engineer ipreipare an estimate for forming two .pieces of road at Taylor’s culvert and Reihana’s gate.—Seconded by Cr. Williams and carried.

Cr. Sherwood proposed that Mr. McClutchic be requested to remove fence wires off the Tapuwaeroa road. — Seconded by Cr. T. S. Williams and carried.

The Chairman proposed that the Overseer prepare an estimate for forming a road at Waiparc.—Seconded by Cr. deLautour and carried.'

The Chairman’s notice of motion that future meetings of the Council bo held on Mondays was proposed by himself and seconded by Cr. A. B. Williams and carried.

The Chairman .proposed that professional advice ho obtained on certain clauses in the Counties Act pertaining to powers of Harbor Boards. The Chairman’s motion to alter the day of the weekly half-holiday to Thursday was confirmed. Payments passed amounted to £I6OO.
