POWERFUL' THOUGHT TO BE
ASHORE
v TPeu Press Association.] .AUCKLAND, Feb. 26. A rumor gained currency this morning that the warship Powerful, overdue from Sydney, was ashore. The source of the rumor cannot- be traved, though ,some color was lent to the report by the fact that both the Challenwer and Promethus loft part- early this morning. Inquird made elicited the information, that the Challenger and Promethus were only going as far as Kaw-au, intending to return to port this afternoon, when a local contractor wag instructed to supply provisions. Generally, inquires discredit the rumor. .. . Later.—The Powerful passed Tiritin inward bound, at 1.40 p.m. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. 'Hie Powerful arrived safely with no mishap; also the Encounter, from Wellington.
