United Press Association—Copyright

SYDNEY, Feb. 28

Last Friday night the first wireless message from New Zealand was received by Mr Young, an experimentalist, living at Arncliff. Using a 50ft aerial, and with a detector of liis own invention, he'picked up the HAI.S. Powerful’s signals iplainl'y all the way across to Auckland. When the flagship rounded the North Cape the signals became fainter, probably due to the land coming between. iHe expects to hold communication with the Powerful all through the cruise. Oil February loth, lie picked up H.M.S. Encounter with Lord Kitchener aboard, when about a thousand miles distant. The experimenter also- thought lie could detect the Powerful speaking to the Chailileugcr on Friday last, and that he could hear the latter replying, although he could not make out the message.
