General Botha, replying to the Hot Volk -address at Petersburg, hoped the coming elections would not bring up the question of English versus Dutch, hut that the best men would be .returned.
•LONDON, Feb. 28.
Lord Brassey, interviewed on his return from South Africa, referring to Mr. Merri man's attitude, said that although the Transvaal was hot the senior colony, it was the backbone of the whole of South Africa. It- was only natural that men chosen by the Transvaal should be fitting to lead the new Government. He did not- believe the latest development would lead to any set-back.
