THE FLEMINGTON MEETING
United Press Association —Copyright (Received March. 1, 7.15 ,p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 1. The "weather was fine and warm for the continuation of the Flemington meeting. ' There was a good attendance, and a good race for the Cup was expected, hut when the hoard was hoisted only a dozen horses were left in. Orline led from start to finish, and was only a quarter of a second outside the record of 1905. The results ■were :
Hurdles.—Vernier 1, The Gaul 2, Lord Desmond 3. Four others started. Won by a length. Time, smin s<Uscc. Ascot ’Vale Stakes.—Beverage 1, Lager 2, Gigandra 3. Also l started: Bobadea, Teanomi, and Teringa. Lager led to the turn from Gigandra and Beverage. The latter ran through at the distance to the centre of the course, and won brilliantly by three lengths. Time, Imin 15§sec.
Australian Cup.—Orline 1, Peudil 2, Diabolo 3. Scratchings: Maflce, Conge d’Eslire, Active, Moruga, Flavian, and. Herova. From a good start Orline dashed to the front at the halfmile post, followed by Diabolo, Flavinins, Nuslika, Delaware, and • Pendil. This order Avas maintained to the riverside. where Pendil moved up fifth, replacing Aberdeen, who dropped to the roar. Orline was leading by 1 two lengths past the abattoirs from Diabolo. Rounding the turn Pendil gained rapidly', and made a gallant but hopeless effort entering the straight. Orline Avon by three lengths, Pendil being five lengths ahead of Diabolo, Carl Dour fourth. Time, 3min 57£sec. Steeplechase.—Ripon 12.8, 1; Alciun 9.5, 2; Saverne 9.7, 3. Also started: Seymour, Boisdale, Earl <yf Castles, Eu oambene, Wolseley, Stariel, and Gos hen. Ripon took charge at the turn and won easily by eight lengths, a length betAveen second and third. Ear] of Castles Avas last. Time, 4min 13sec. Bourke Handicap.—Pretty Peg 6.10, 1; Kuringai 7.9, 2 ; Conge d’Eslire 8.2, 3. Also started: Mala, True Scot, Knox, Malmsey, Phisli, Captain White, Queen of Scots, Seatondale, _ Mother Goose, Sequarious, and Waitai. Plush made the running. Pretty Peg went to the front in the straight', and was challenged by Kuringai. hut won by tAVo lengths. Conge d’Eslire finished' fast within half-a-length of'Kuringai. Mala and Sequarious were last. . Time, limn 273 sec. Junior Handicap.—Danaus 7.0. 1; Vira 7.4, 2; Blairgour 7.12, 3. Nine others started'. Won by one and aquarter lengths. Time, Imin 16Jsec.
