SOUTH ISLAND MEETING

[Per. Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. The South Island Rifle Association’s meeting Avas continued to-day. The Southland match, 10 shuts at 600 yards, was Avon by Rifleman Ray (Christchurch Defence Rifle Club), 49; Rifleman Duthie (Christchurch Defence Rifle Club), 48; Private W. Webb (Tomuka), 48. King’s Match, open to 24 highest scorers in the Canterbury, Otago, and Southland matches, ten shots at 900yds, was Avon by Sorgt. A. R. Wills (Southland Mounted Rifles), 255; Sergt. McCalloy (Sydney), 254, 2; Private W. Webb (Temuka), 251, 3. Private Webb wins Lieut.-Col on el Smith’s cup for tho highest aggregate in tlic Canterbury and' Southland matches. Lieut. Gee Avins Messrs Jones and Sons’ gold medal for the highest aggregate at the 500yds in the Canterbury and Otago matches. Sergeant Heenson wins the Stead Cup for the highest aggregate by a competitor under 21 years in the Canterbury, Otago, and Southland matches. The Ashburton High School wins the D. 1.0. trophy for the winning team in the Defence Cadets teams match. The champion teams match was Avon bv the Christchurch Engineersthe Nursery match by Private McKenzie (Queenstown), 34 points; the public schools cadet match by Corporal Charles (Hampstead). Sergt. Wills (Southland) won Lieut.-Colonel Rhodes’ challenge cup for the highest aggregate at the longest ranges in the Canterbury, Otago, and Southland matches, and the Kaiapoi Co.’s trophy for the highest aggregate at 600yds in the same matches. Lieut. Sandford won Stewart Dawson’s cup for the highest competitor in the final stage of the King’s match. Private McKenzie won Mr. Stead’s cup for the. highest competitor in the Nursery match. A shoot-off between Lieut. Gee (Christchurch) ( and Sergt. Steadman for Jones and Sons’ medal for the highest aggregate at 500 yards in the Canterbury and Otago matches Avas won by Gee Avith 19—12, and the meeting ended.
