KING LEOPOLD’S FORTUNE.
DECEIVED THE NATION. United Press Association —Copyright (Received Alarch 5, 5 p.m.) BRUSSELS, March 4. 1 Princess Louise declares that if her father disposed of property belonging to Belgium for the benefit of a third party cdic; would make no claim, but hoped the Government would inform herself and her sisters of the property to which the State’s right is not established, and to which they are therefore entitled to succeed. Vandervello, during an interpellation in the Chamber, stated that it is now found that King Leopold invested £2,800,000 in companies directed by men of straw, including the million Congo bonds. Money tainted with blood ought to revert to Belgium to improve the’ negroes’ lot. The Government admitted that King Leopold had deceived them, and would uphold tlie nation’s rights. Other speakers asserted that £1,200,000 had disappeared, and the Congo treasury books and papers had been destroyed. De Woesto paid a tribute to the Princess’ delicate sense of honor. A resolution from the Left negatived by 70 to 66 De Vooste s motion, and one of confidence in the Government was adopted.
