METHODIST CONFERENCE.
THE BIBLE CLASS MOVEMENT. [Tint Press Association. | DUNEDIN, March 8. Upon rosuining in the afternoon session the- election of Chairman of di.s. tricts took place as follows: —Auckland, Rev. C. Band; Wanganui, Rev. G. \V. ,1. Spence; Wellington, Rev. T. Fee; Nelson, Rev. J. J. Lewis; Canterbury, President of the Conference; Otago, Rev. AV. AV. Fairclough. Consideration of the Bible-class m >io. ment was resumed, when it was unini iricusly resolved that the Conference convey to the Rev. A. B. Chappell, SI.A., its best thanks for the valuable sendees rendered by him as organising secretary of the Bible-class Movement Committee and he was re-appointed. The Rev. J. R. Clark was appointed secretary. A new constitution for work among the young of the church was adopted. The report of the training institutions for deaconesses ■ was brought before the Conference by the Rev. C. A. Garland and adopted. During the yea"* Sister Mabel, the lady superintendent, lias visited England, Sister Rosa, of Sydney, acting as an efficient supply. Miss Hunter, after two years’ residence, has been appointed to the Blenheim circuit. Thy rules of the Lon. stitution have been carefully revised. These rules were considered by the Con. ference, and with slight amendments were adopted. The report of The committee on lav "nstorates provided for dividing members and adherents into convenient groups, and placing them under suitable leaders, who are to present quarterly reports. The Rev. T. C. Brook .submitted ‘the report of 'the Hiome Mission Committee dealing with allocation of grants in aid. etc. The regulation is to he more strict in the future as to the stipends for Homo M issionarics and aided ministers. Greater care was urged in the reception of Home missionaries. Trial sermons and examinations by the committee were arranged for. The report was adopted and Mr. Brook was thanked for his services and reappointed organising secretary. Air. F. L. Prime, retiring treasurer was made a life member of the Homo Mission Committee. A recoin., memlation was made to the General Conference to provide for Home missionaries of five years’ standing being members of the Finance Synod. It was resolved to hold the Conference of 193 0 at Christchurch. YOUNG PEOPLE’S MEETING. A well-attended young people’s meeting was the closing function of the Conference last evening. The chair was occupied by the Rev. W. J. Williams, and addresses were delivered by the Revs. K. E. jßeecroffc, and A. B. Chappell ALA., and Air. P. R. Paris. HOME MISSIONS. CONCLUSION OF CONFERENCE. DUNEDIN, Alarch 8. The Alethodist Conference met again this morning and dealt with several matters of detail left over during the transaction of business at the previous sittings. "The journals of the Conference were then read and signed, and the proceedings ended. Next year s Conference will he held at Christchurch.
