A sub-committee of the House of Representatives decided against honoring Captain Peary until he submits proofs of liis statements. Members questioned the. accuracy of his statement that his marches averaged 26 miles from leaving Capo Bartlett te> the Pole, and 44 miles daily until he rejoined Bartlett, where, as the greatest speed before and after was nine miles daily.
