A NEW AWARD ASKED FOR. ( Per Press Association. ! PALMERSTON N., Alarcli 10. The' Arbitration Court sa.t at Palmerston North to-day. In the Manawatu flax dispute a quantity -of evidence was Taken. Acting for the emplovers Mr Pryor said that "while the proposals of the'last award of 190/ were the employers’ own proposals, yet the conditions of 1907 were so totally different to those of to-day that it meant now that -if the present award remained in force the flax industry m the 1 Vollingtoir district would be absolutely rubied. Many mills bad already closed down, and others were only just banging on. The position was unfortunate for the workers as well as for the employers. After hearing the employers’ proposals His Honor announced that the Court thought it desirame that the parties should decide- on a sliding scale of wages. They rocot.i* mended that a conference between t.' e parties be held to see if some agreement could not be arrived at on these lines, and meanwhile had decided to postpone making an award. Both Mr Pryor and Air Dalhousie ■ announced their willingness to arrange such a conference. The Court then adjourned.
