GISBORNE CLUB

A large number of bowlers turned out yesterday afternoon, with, tjie result that every rink on the green, of the Gisborne Club was occupied. Several very interesting games were played, including the final of tho First Handicap Fours, which J. J. Martin annexed by eight points. The following were the results: — —Final First Handicap Fours. Brown, Morgan, R. Crawford, J. J. Martin (skip) 22 beat Bullock (sub.), E. Williams, Clarkson, R. Robertson (skip) 14. In the first fourteen: heads the scoring was very low, each team being 14. The- next head saw Martin get a slight lead, and on the following head he got 5 in, practically putting -the game beyond a doubt, Robertson only managing to score 2 in the next seven heads. —Second Handicap Fours.— Hoff, Dodd, Mackintosh, Eure (skip) 29 beat Zachariali, Williams, J. itMartin, Coleman (skip) 14. —Championship' Singles.— Martin 28 beat Kyme 22. R. G. Crawford 18 heat E. Williams 17. —Ordinary. Matches . O’Meara, Cussen, Witty, Crawford (skip)- 21 heat Seymour, Townson, Benzie, Ponaford (skip) 17.

TURANGANUI CLUB,

Though a high westerly wind prevailed, play of an enjoyable nature took place yesterday afternoon, on the Turanganui Bowling Club’s green. Full rink games wore played, no matches eventuating. Besides a. large number of players, there was a number of lacliea present on the green. An excellent afternoon tea was furnished by Mr. H. Martin, while Mesdames Hird and Hewitt and Miss Fielder kindly attended to the dispensing, the refreshments being much appreciated. —President’s Fours. — The Match Committee, have notified that the Greig v. McWthirter match must be re-played by Saturday, March 19th. McWliirter has appealed to the General Committee of the club against the- Match Committee’s decision. A meeting takes place this evening to consider the matter. The draw for the semi-final has resulted in the rink skipped by Nasmith gem*, having to lay either Greig or McWltirtor, and the winners have to meet Nasmith junr’s rink in the final. —Pennant Fours. — The following team have challenged the holders of the Pennant Fours (Dan Barry, W. JI. Douglas, B. Hird, and A. Sawyer, skip) to a game on Thursday next: W. McPherson, V. Hooper, E. Lewis, and M. A. Neill (skip). —Handicap Fours. : — Entries arc now being taken for Handicap Fours, to close on Saturday, March 19th, for trophies presented fey Messrs Mackinlay and Co, H. J. Grieve, C. Morse, and J. M. Lennon.
