THE COMPENSATION CLAIMS

In the Supreme Court yesterday in chambers the pending claims against tlie Wellington Harbor Ferries Coy., Ltd., fbr compensation arising out of the loss of the Duco were mentioned. Tii.e Company has applied under the Shipping and Seamen’s Act to. permit its liability to be £ls per ton of the vessel’s tonnage, and to sta-v .all Supreme Court proceedings un-til the Admiralty Court has decided whether or not the Duco was lest through the owner’s actual fault qr privity. Mr Skerrett, for the Company, said that certain liability would -be admitted (the defendants to the motion having contended that the Company must admit liability up to £ls per ton before going into the Admiralty Court), but not'at the present stage. It -need) not be admitted before a decree nisi was made. The Chief Justice granted leave for Or petition to be delivered to the various defendants to the motion, argument to be heard next week.
