ATTEMPT TO DERAIL A TRAIN.

An attempt- was made to derail the train whereto the Chief Commfcsioner’s car was attached, at Katoomba.. Heaps of stones placed on the, line caused the engine to leave the rails. The Federal electors in Victoria number 703,699, the women exceeding tlie men by over 11,000. THE AEROPLANE INDUSTRY. The Department of External Affairs is advised from London that several Australian woods are suitable for the manufacture of aeroplanes. The demand for such woods is enormous and increasing. MURRAY WATERS' COMMISSION. The report of the Murray Waters Commission urges that except for stock and domestic supply for settlement within a reasonable distance of the streams', irrigation should be deemed a paramount use of the Murray system. It advocates the canalisation of the Murray and Murrumbidgce by. means of locks and' weirs, and''suggests tliat in the event of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia failing to come to an agreement regarding the regulation of the river and its tributaries an agreement for the same purpose be entered into between any two of the States concerned; also for the appointment of 3111 inter-State board to consider the whole question. TERRIBLE TRAGEDY AT PERTH. . PERTH, March 15. A brother and sister, named Noalk, aged respectively eight and twelve, were found dead in a paddock, each with a bullet in the forehead. A broken pea rifle which the boy had been carrying was lying near by. It is surmised tliat the hoy shot his sister accidentally, and then took his o wn Jif° i° remorse. THE FEDERAL-STATES FINANCIAL AGREEMENT. (Received March 15, 10.30 p.m) MELBOURNE, March 15. A caucus of supporters of the State Ministry decided to vote. “Yes” on the, financial agreement when submitted to a Federal referendum.
