Lord Kitchener arrived in Wellington from his> overland trip yesterday. He. was 1 to leave in the afternoon by the Mokoia for the Eastern Pacific Islands. News has been received in Wellington that Captain James Scott, formerly master in the Union Company’s service, was killed on the railway at Geelong, Victoria, last Saturday. Deceased was a brother of Captain Edward Stott, assistant marine superintendent at Wellington, for the Union Company. , . r Captain Robert Stewart, rormerly or the Union Company’s service and for some years in the Wellington-l ietonNel son running, has taken over the lease of the Club Hotel, Bluff. A London cablegram, states that Lady Dudley is approaching convalesCGIICC • A London cablegram states that the Archbishop of York has appointed the Rev. A. D. Tupper ,a canon. The .reverend gentleman intends to devote himself to mission work, and sails on June 16 for New Zealand, where lie will carry on a three months’ mission of help. , Mr E. G. Loten, agricultural mstruc tor for the Hawke’s Bay Education Boaiu, arrived in Gisborne yesterday morning, and will conduct his classes at the Gisborne school to-morrow afternoon and Saturday .morning, and at Miatawhero on Friday evening. The Rev. E. W. Walker and family left by the Mono-wai last evening for Hobart, on. .a holiday tour. Mr. T. M. Milford. M.P.. is definitely announced as a candidate for the Wellington City Mayoralty.
