GISBORNE WOOLBROKERS' ASSOCIATION.
PERIODICAL SALE. One of the periodical sales under the .auspices of the Gisborne Wool-brokers' Association .was held yesterday afternoon. Competition for wool was not keen, with the -exception of fellmongers’ lots, which sold readily at good prices. Tlie catalogue was not a large one. The following buyers were present: Messrs Warnock (Warnock Bros., Auckland), Kearsley (Murgatroyd Bros., Auckland;, W. H. ‘Smith, J. Teesdale and -G. Arnold (Mr E. Bourke and Co.). The following catalogues were offered by the different firms:—Williams and Kettle. 200 bales and 50 bags wool, 1912 skins, T3G hides and 111 .packages tallow. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., 20 bales, 15 fadiges, 2 pockets and 32 bags wool, 762 slans, 13 hides, 40 padkages tallow. Common, Shelton and 1 Go., 40 bales and 34 bags wool, 100 skins. Bennett and Sheratt, SrS bales and 16 bags wool, 480 skins, 115 hides and 7 packages tallow. Bulge ty and Co., 30 bales wool, 300 skins, few hides and small quantity tallow. Totals, 315 'bales and 150 bags wool, 3554 skins, 264 hides and 158 packages tallow. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company sold first, Mr G. R. Wyllie officiating as auctioneer in the absence of Air Bright. The firm reports that there was not much rumpetition for wool, .but skins sold readily. Locks brought from 3]d to 4.1 d, bellies and pieces (front 5d to s id, dead 5d to 7id, slipe 6.]d to Bd, crossbred fleece 6Jcl to 7id; skins from 2d to 7cl; hides from 4-gd to 5-J-d, and tallow from 17s to 18s 9d cwt. Messrs Williams and Kettle report a.s follows: “Bidding was brisk for all fellmcngers’ lots -of wool, but fleece wool suffered' in comparison with last sale, consequent on the cable advice received yesterday from London, announcing a drop of JO per cent, on coarse wool. Fleece wool fetched from 7d to Ski, lambs from 7d to Bid, seedy lambs 5d to Gd, bellies and pieces 5d to Gid, locks 4d to 4-]d, and crutckings 5d to s]d. Skins realised full prices. Best woollcd, well sorts made up to 7d. We again call owners’ attention to the necessity of (painting the skins with dip, and thus preserving them from weevils, which cause tremendous damage and consequently reduction in values. Hides made up to 29s for ox. freezers, and 20s for cows. Station lots sold at to 5-id lb, and calves up to Gd. Tallow made from 17s to 20s a cwt.” Messrs Bennett and Shorratt’s lots sold as follows:—Fleece wool up to Bd. bellies Gd, pieces and dead 54d to 7d, locks- 4]d, crutohings offd, skins up to 7cl, freezing works ox hides 28s 9d, station hides ofd to syd lb, freezing works cow hides 24s Gd, tallow up to 19s Gd. Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s prices were as follows: Fleece wool Syd, lambs 7]d to 8-d, dead 7 fid, pieces 5d to Gid. locks 4d to 4]d. skins up to 7d, and hides up to sd, tallow 17s 3d cwt.
Quotations supplied by Messrs Common Shelton and Co., are as follows: Fleece up to 8-id, dead 7d. locks 4id m sd, pieces s ; 'd to Gd, skins 4id to 7d, for good sorts pelts 4d.
