BOY SCOUTS.
NO 2. Y.M.C.A. TR'ool\ Tlio last instruction night was devoted to scout law. The Scout-Master reported upon the recent large meeting of scouts at Christchurch, anti also conveyed greetings from other places. A short parade was held, and afterwards a r;urprise was made on the St. Andrews troop at their rooms. The attendance at- tlie Scout Rally on Sunday mornings is on the increase NO. 3 TROOP (ST. ANDREWS.) At last class meeting there was a good muster. Important- questions affecting die working of tlie troop were discussed and several resolutions passed, it was decided to keep a roll and award marks for .attendance. Also a record of marks won in scouting practice and fo { - the care of rooms, etc. Half the scouts spent- the rc-st of the evening in coo’king, while the remainder went through some signalling exercises in semaphore. These were witnessed by Chaplain Grant, who “was very pleased with the progress made. Tlie cooking was a great success, and a first-class damper was turned out bv three- of the. Wolves.
On Thursday advantage was taken of the ‘holiday,■ eight of tlie scouts, with the Scout-Master, making a walking expedition up the Waimata in search of a suitable spot for an Easter Encampment. Then, after a spellj a mile was covered m quick time, in open formation, advance and rear-guards being out to guard against surprise. Strict silence was kept on- the and bad marks were awarded for’'bVerv word spoken. The highest possible was scored in this test, all scouts ending with* a clean, sheet. The, home run was taken across the hills, the direction being followed by means of compass. Good time was made, and the troop arrived at Mangnpapa after a good scramble, about 7.10 p.ui.
