MOTU. [From Our Own Correspondent.] On the evening of St. Patricks’ Day a dance took place in the new hall at Motu, and lasted till daylight next morning. The ladies were present in large numbers, and'many very smart and pretty dresses were to be seen. Mrs. C. Hansen were black, trimmed with silk and insertion; Mrs. W. J. Hansen, pale, blue silk, black trimmings; Mrs. W. Bridge, costume of fawn and white ; Mrs. 1. Elliott, pale pink blouse and grey skirt; Mrs. Bull, Empire gown of navy blue: Mrs. Rich, mond, cream blouse and black skirt; Mrs. Smith, black and white voile; Mr s P. M. Hansen, white embroidered robe ; Miss Richardson, black gown, lace yoke and sleeves; Miss Price, pale blue blouse, grey skirt; Misses G. and M. Hansen, white embroidered muslin; Miss Habgood (Patutahi), heliotrope ; Miss Sceats (Gisborne), white Empire gown; Miss Roythome, white embroidered robe ; Miss N. Wright, white; Miss A. Wright (Canterbury), cream color; Misses E. and R. MacDonald, white embroidered dresses; Miss McPhee, cream color: Miss N. McPhee, white lawn; Miss E. Jackson, cream color; Miss May Hansen, pale pink silk arid muslin, trimmed with cream insertion ; Miss A. Jackson, white embroidered muslin; Miss C. Hanson (Gisborne), pale green Empire gown, embroidered, yoke and sleeves; Miss Nancy Smith, white: Miss; Bridge, blue and white; striped muslin. Miss A. Wright (Canterbury) sang “Whisper and I shall hear,” and “Dawn.” while Mr. W. Douglas contributed Tosti’s “Goodbye,” and “Bonny Marv of Argylc.” • ‘ Two Motu properties have changed hands during the last few days. Mr. W. D. S. MacDonald having sold to a Hawke’s Bay. purchaser, and Mr. Cl Pickard to a Canterbury farmer. -Very probably some more properties will be sold very soon, as likelv .buyers want to purchase before the railway sends up the values. Th e Motu is to ho honored with a visit from a party of Gisborne gentlemen. who are organising a concert/ for tlirv 26th March, the proceeds to be devoted towards the new Motu Hotel,
