THREATENED GENERAL STRIKE OF MINERS United Press Association —Copyright (Received March 24, 10.50 p.m.) LONDON, March 24. Delegates representing 15,000* Welsh miners have demanded that the Miners’ Federation of Britain should call a general strike. The only possibility of averting a. strike on Ist April is the intervention of the Board o*f Trade. Representatives of the men are to meet Mr. Buxton (President of the Board of Trade) • to-day. HOPES OF AVERTING THE STRIKE. (Received March 26, 12.55 a.m.) LONDON, March 25. Mr. Buxton received the representatives of the coal miners, and afterwards the delegates of the Miners’ Federation, and persuaded both to agree to a further meeting with the Conciliation Board -at. Cardiff on Saturday. ‘ The “Times” states that the sympathies of the Miners’ Federation of Britain are also estranged to a not inconsiderably degree by the Welsh miners’ opposition to the double shift system, wliich-ds already in operation in Northumberland and Durham. It is possible that the Federation may apply pressure to prevent a strike.
