BARBAROUS EXECUTION.

Mufa Khere Sultaneli, a well-known reactionary, was publically hanged for high treason at Teheran, on Thursday, January 27. The condemned man had taken refuge in the Russian Legation in July, but subsequently left in company with the ex-Shah. A few days ago he returned, and was captured, compromising documents being found in bis possession. A painful sceme occurred at the exccv.tion, which was carried out in an ex. traordinary clumsy and brutal manner. At- the first attempt the rope broke, and the condemned ixian fell to the ground, where he was severely beaten on the head by the guard surrounding the gallows. At the same moment the cordon of police which were engaged in keeping order levelled their rifles at the crowd. A panic ensued, in which some people were, more or less, seriously injured. A few minutes later the prisoner wa s again Jiiiulcd up butj ns liis bands were- not pinioned, he did not expire until he had spent several minutes m convulsive attempts to ward off the fatal moment by clinging to the rope anil the transverse beam of the gallows. Very strong feeling exists m the European community (says Reuter) ouiug to the barbarous clumsiness of the execution.
