ROYAL VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA.
In connection with the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to South Africa, to open the new Parliament of United South Africa, informal preparations are being made in South Africa for the purpose of arranging a draft programme to be submitted to his Royal Highness for approval. As the first Union Parliament is expected to meet in October it is'anticipated that the Prince and Princess will reach South Africa in September, as a date later than this would not be suitable if a shooting excursion is to be arranged. It is hoped that their Royal Highnesses will then make a tour of the country, visiting the principal centres and places of interest in the various colonies, and px-oceeding as far north as the Victoria Falls on tlie Zambesi. For the conveyance of the Royal guests and their suites a magnificent Royal- train is being specially built. Ik seems improbable that the Prince will travel in a warship, as he did when he visited Quebec, owing to the limited space and the unsuitability of such a vessel for ladies and it is thought like, ly that their Royal Highnesses, attended by their suites, may cross the ocean in a chartered liner, in all probability the new Union-Castle mail steamer, Balmoral Castle, landing at Durban. The return will, in all probability, be made for England from Uape Town immediatelv after the opening ceremony oi the Union Parliament, iris not regarded as likely that their Royal Highnesses will be absent from England more chan three months.
