TUBERCULOSIS AND INFECTION

At the Royal College of Physicians recently Dr. AY. Bulloch delivered an address on “The Problem of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Considered from the Standpoint of Infection.” Ho said that modern research established the fact that pulmonary tuberculosis was produced bv bacilli of the human type, and that "it was essentially a human disease caused by tho inhalation of human bacilli. This, rendered it- necessary that regulations in regard to sputum should he more rigidly enforced than ever. In support of his theory, Dr. Bulloch directed attention to, the result of extensive research in different countries. In Japan human tuberculosis in all its forms was widely spread 40 years sjr* itwas certain that in ilk was not used as an article of diet in that country. In Signaporo the Chinese coolies died like flies from tuberculosis, hut they never touched milk; while in Greenland the disease was rampart, but the country contained no cattle.

PROJECTED lAlJ'jo-Ap EXHIBITION.

A scheme for the of a large Imjiorinl Exhibition in 1915 lias been originated by Captain Sir Peter C. Van B. w Stewart-Bam, until recently senior member for Capetown in the Cape Parliament. The aims and objects of the undertaking are more especially to show what can ho, produced and manufactured within the Empire. Entirely non-political in its character, the movement has already met with much support, and there is every indication that the project will he carried to a. successful issue. It is intended to hold a public meeting, at the Mansion House early next vear. Such a gathering should have been held on October'3l, but it was postponed so as not to interfere with tho Festival of Empire or any other Imperial schemes which will he held next year. It is decided that the idea shall he taken up by all tho peoples in thoEinpire, and the committee will gladly welcome anv suggestion that may he submitted to them.
