Leonard Shaiv, a laborer, aged 23, who accidently shot himself in the foot while rabbit shooting at Plimmerton on Christmas Day, died in the hospital today. AN IMPENDING INQUEST. The coroner Avill hold an inquest tomorroAv concerning the death of a neAvly-born child. The mother, who arrived from England last November, is a domestic servant, employed at NewtoAvn, and the child was found dead in her bedroom yesterday. STILL UNCONSCIOUS. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 10. Ryan, injured on the steamer Wootton yesterday, was operated on last night, and is still unconscious. Nothing definite is known regarding his tity.THE TEMUKA RAILWAY FATALITY TIMAIt-U, Jan. 10. The adjourned inquest concerning the. Temu’ka railway fatality Avas concluded to-day. The body of a newly born male child was found to-day in a small garden enclosure in the middle of the borough. There is no clue yet to the parents. A DIVER‘S TRAGIC DEATH. DUNEDIN, Jan. 10. Advice was received to-day by the secretary of the Rise and Shine Dredg-, ing Co. of the sudden death of George Todd, a diver who was working in connection with the company’s No. 2 dredge, which sank last week. It appears' that Mr. Todd was making an inspection of the dredge, and after lie had been down a considerable time those on the surface realised that he gave no answer to the signals. He was then pulled up, but was found to be dead. ' - •

A SHEARER DROWNED. GORE, Jan. 10. At Waikaia on Sunday afternoon, a shearer, Maurice Constant Schlonbaek, was drowned whilst bathing in the Waikaia river, opposite Argyle station. He got beyond his depth, and was swept into a hole-by the undercurrent. Ho was 30 years of age. His parents reside in Dunedin.
