ATHLETICS.

WELLINGTON ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 13. The weather Avas fine for the annual provincial championship of the Wellington centre of the N.Z. Amateur Athletic Association yesterday afternoon. Over tAVO thousand persons were present. There Avere a number of Canterbury athletes competing. R. Opie, of Canterbury, won. the 100 and 220 yards events. Woodger Avas not a competitor. J. H. Berry, of Masterton, Avon the 75yds handicap from scratch in 7 4-5 sec.

In the three-mile Avalk. the judge disqualified three competitors, and was hooted by a section of the public. The official time of 31sec given for the 300 yards’ ladies’ bracelet caused a good deal of doubt. The track Avas remeasured, and Avas found to be 16 yds 2ft short. The folloAving Avere the results:— —Championship Events.—

High Jump.—H. A. Hodge and L. McKay tied at sft Gin. Both then failed to beat the, standard, sft Gin.

One Mile Walk.—G. Turner 1, P. J. Fitzgerald 2, F. Turner 3. Won by 25 yards. Time, 6min 59 2-ss_ee. 100yds.—It. Opie 1, J. H. Berry 2, V. 8. Williams 3, Won by three yards. Time, 10 l-ssec. Half-mile.—F. J. Wilson 1, H. T. Martis also started, but gave up. lOOyds Hurdles.—lt. McKenzie 1, H. A. Hodge 2, E. J. Douglas 3. Won by half a yard, after an exciting race. Time, 17 3-ssee. Putting the Shot.—-L. McKay, 35ft lin, 1; J. A. Bissett, 33ft llin, 2. _

One Alile Flat Race.—J). Binnie 1, G. H. Elliffe 2. Time, 4min 57sec. 220yds.—R. Opie 1, F. C. Hubbard 2, V. S. Williams 3. Won by two yards. Time, 23 3-ssec. 440yds Hurdles.—T. C. Ivitto 1, W. Harvey 2, R. McKenzie 3. Won by two yards. Time, 65sec. Throwing the Hammer.:—A. Bissott (only competitor), 105 ft 6in. Long .Jump.—F. C. Hubbard, 19ft 2in, 1; H. H. Dawson, 17ft l()in, 2; H. H. Christophers, 17ft s)in, 3. Three Miles Flat Raccn—L. E. Baxter 1, C. Rowbervy 2. Won by 80 yards. Time, 16min o 4-ssec.
