POVERTY BAY CLUB

The double-sculling races for Mr. J. Broad’s cup were continued last evening. \V. McGuffie and J. Corbett (3sec) defeated P. Stubbs and F. Snowden (16 sec) by a length and a half. Stubbs kept in the lead till about a hundred yards from the post, where McGuffie drew ahead and won by the stated distance.

,T. Weston and J. Lloyd (lOsec) forfeited to N. Ingram and A. Tubert (6 sec). / The races will be continued this evening, when L\ Fisliback and H. Bean (8 sec) will row J. Nicolas and T. Clark (2see), and J. O’Neill and O. Hansen (9sec) will try conclusions with J. McConnell and J. Prickett (7sec). Two good races are anticipated. At a committee meeting of the above dub, held in the club-house last evening, it was decided to select ‘‘strokes” for the “President’s Fours” on 'the 26tli inst. Entries also close on that date, and those members who wish to compete are requested to enter their names on the list. Mr. • E. J. Roche was . appointed “coach” for the l()st crew, and Messrs. M. McLeod and E. Whitfield a visiting committee for the ensuing week. GISBORNE CLUB. The. second round in connection with the Schumacher Fours was concluded last evening, when Donald (stroke), Dawson (3), Jeffreys (2), Wright (bow) defeated Busc-ke (stroke), Mc.Conville

(3), Rutherford (2), Quigley (bow). Donald won the toss and chose the inside course. The start was a good one, and both crews raced well together to the junction.. At this point Donald had ‘a slight lead, and after a fine spurt to the bridge he had increased liis lead to about a length and a half. The race was won from here. Buscke put in some quick work after passing the bridge, but was unable to overtake his opponents, Donald winning comfortably by a length. . ‘ The semi-final will he vowed this evening, when de Lautour meets Coleman ancf Donald meets Hamilton. The races should be interesting contests, as all the crews are in good condition.
