METEOROLOGICAL.

The following is the Government Meteorologist’s (Mr. I). C. Bates) summary and forecast, issued at *1 p.m. to-day: — Hazv and cloudy skies have been reported in most parts, and showery and squallv conditions in the southernmost districts. Westerly gales have been experienced in Foveaux Strait. Moderate South-easterly winds have prevailed in the northern district, and westerlies, backing to northerlies, in the south. The haromeier has fallen everywhere since 9 o’clock to-day. Present indications are for freshening easterly winds in the northern districts, and high northerly winds elsewhere. Warm and hazy weather will probably prevail, but showery in most parts, southward of 'New 1 lymouth and Napier. The barometer will probably fall slowly everywhere, and a storm area appears to be developing away to the northward of New Zealand.
