Mokoia, South, February 12 VESSELS IN PORT. Kororo, scow. Waikonini, scow. Knight of the Garter, s.s., in the bay. Messrs. Huddart, Parker, and Co.’s Victoria is due in Gisborne from Napier and the South at an early hour to-mor-row morning. She will be tendered by the Tuatea at G a.m. for inward passengers and at 10 a.m. with outward passengers. The Victoria will resume her passage to Auckland about noon. The Union Co/s Tarawera is expected to return from Auckland, en route for Napier and Yv'ellington, on Sunday afternoon. when the Tuatea will connect on arrival and at 5 p.m. The Tarawera will leave here for Napier during the evening. The X.Z. Shipping Co. s chartered steamer Ivnight of the Garter arrived in the roadstead about 1 p.m. yesterday. She is to load 3500 bales of wool, and will sail for Napier on Saturday evening. The Union Co.’s Squall, which left Gisborne last Monday for Whangarei, arrived in Auckland from that port yesterday. It is expected that she will leave'Auckland for Gisborne, via Tologa Bav. to-day, and she should arrive here on Sunday. On completing her discharge of cargo for Gisborne the Squall returns to Auckland. The Union Co.’s Haupiri arrived from Napier yesterday morning, and after discharging cargo ' proceeded to Auckland, via East Coast ports. Messrs. Richardson and Co.’s Ripple is due Horn southern ports this morning. She brings a general cargo. The Union Co.’s AYairuna. with 700 tons of coal, is due here from Newcastle to-day or to-morrow. The formal invitation to tender for the construction of four cruisers and six destroyers for the Canadian Navy has been issued at Ottawa. The firms prepared to tender for these contracts were asked to submit their names some months ago. All the vessels must be built in Canada. Among the British firms interested are Vickers. Maxim, and Harland and WolfF. There apparently will be no foreign competitors.
