The High Cbmmisioners cable, dated London, February 18th, states: —Mutton : Trade in all classes of mutton has been very slow, and prices are barely maintained. The stock is moderate. There is a large proportion of heavyweights, which are difficult to sell. North Island is at 3£d. Lamb: The market ii<s dull, and very little business is doing. The supply exceeds the demand. There is no change in prices. Quotations show a weaker tendency. Canterbury, old ; other than Canterbury sj*d. Beef: The market is quiet. The stock of frozen beef is small. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. Nominally New Zealand hindquarters are at 3jd ; forequarters, 3}d ; chilled about the same. Butter: The market is steady. There is a moderate enquiry. There is a targe supply on hand. Superior grades are in demand. There are a tew complaints of fishiness in New Zealand butter. . Choicest New Zealand butter is at-lOos. Australian 101 s, Danish 1235. Cheese : The market is quiet, but firm. White, 56s Gd, coloured 59s 6d. Hemp: The market is quiet. The output from Manila for the week waa 26,000 bales. Wool : The market is firm. There is a hardening tendency. Bradford quotations: 36’s (low crossbreds) Is Id, 40’s (low crossbreds) Is l;]d, 44's (medium crossbreds) Is 2-]cl ; 50’s (halfbreds) Is 6 1 , d, 56’s (quarter-breds) Is 9d, 60’s (merinos) 2s 1-id. Cocksfoot seed : The market is quiet, but firm. Bright, clean New Zealand seed, weighing 171’bs per bushel, is at 73s per cwt. LARGE ENTRIES! FOR, MASTER-TON STOCK SALE. , MASTERTON, Feb. 20. Fourteen thousand quarters of February shipment at 345. Shares: Wailii, 68s 9d to 71s 3d.
