SWIMMING.
SUCCESS OF GISBORNE BOYS. The names of several Gisborne hoys figure largely among the successes at the recent tnnual swimming sports at Nelson College, and a telegram received locall-v yesterday stated that E. J. Chrisp, another Gisborne boy, had •won- the College championship at the
sports held yesterday. This will entitle him to hold for one year a strikingly handsome cup, valued at £6O, and of which photographs were recently published, besides which he will be awarded the usual replica, which is valued at £2 2s. This is the second occasion on which the championship has been won •by a Gisborne boy, namely J. N. Bullard beng champion last year. As has been stated, local boys were to the fore in the annual sports held last year. In the 200yds, open, E. J. Chnsp attained second place. In the 50yds open, E. J. Chrisp and A. Muir won their respectdve heats, while H. Ghrisp, Turuki Monro, L. Parker obtained places. 'The two semi-finals were won by E. J. Olirisp and Turuki Monro, and the former won the final. Turuki Monro was placed in his heat in the 50yds and back, and also obtained third place in the new boys’ race. G. Parker won tlie 75yds under 16, whilst in,the 75yds open:, H. Chrisp, L. Parker and J. Chrisp Avon then; heats, the latter winning the final. In the relay race E. J. Chrisp’s team, including his brother, finished- first. y E. J'. Chrisp’s performance in particular Avas a meritorious one, and the results as a whole slioav that the Gisborne boys knoAV how to swim, but have, to go far from home to receive encouragement in this elsewhere popular art. However, Avith such promise amongst the younger set, perhaps we may yet see the revival of a swimming club in Gisborne. /
