One thousand carabineers patrol the town and the prisoners are locked in an iron cage, each accompanied by a carabineer in a smaller cage. In the case of Abbatwaggio, the informer, there are difficulties in the way _ of securing a jury, and many are tendering medical certificates of unfitness to serve.
