MATAVVHERO STOCK SALES.
VERY HEAVY YARDING OF
SHEEP
There was beautiful weather and a. good attendance of buyers at Mata.--wliera yesterday, when, the weekly stock sales wore held. A particularly large number of sheep came forward, 31,5U0 being yarded. This was accounted for by the fact that farmers a.re at present getting rid of their cull ewes before the autumn. The bulk" of the sheep entry, therefore, was of an inferior sort, though some good lines of wethers were submitted, a nice even lot from Tarewa topping the market at 13s Id. The offering of fat sheep was not of as h:igli a standard as usual, and the demand wa.-> not keen. - The fact that the recent generous rains have caused an overplus of grass caused heavy cattle to be in great demand, as heavy stock are necessary to keep the country in order l'pr sheep. Bidding was spirited for store cattle, and exceptionally good prices were realised The sale commerced at 10.30 a. mil., and did not conclude until 5 p.rn.
