THE ASSOCIATION GAME
The British Association football season will be opened this afternoon, with a match on the. polo ground, Makauri, between the team which won the Licensed Victuallers’ Shied last season and a challenge team. P.lay is to begin at 3 p.m. The challenging team will be as follows:
Goal. J. Love; backs, E. Luttrell and H. Hunwick; halves. F. Spilman, J. Oates, O. Allen; forwards, Drake, Hughes, Renwick, Hay, Gell; reserves —goal, Binnie ; back, Latham; forwards, J. Griffin, J. Sheppard, C. Cook.

MELBOURNE, April 7
A meeting of members of League and Association football clubs to discuss the management of football with a view to establishing the sport as a respectable
game, resolved that two steps immediately necessary to purify and maintain; its prestige were the appointment of one united governing body, and the recognition and legitimatising of open payment of players.
