[PEE PH ESS iSSOCIATIOX.3 MASTERTOX, April 12. The Hon. R. AlcKenzie who was banquetted by the sett e;s cf Pongaroa on Tuesday evening, arrived here this evening, after a day’s drive over the route of the suggested Pongarca-Alas-terton railway. A deputation waited upon the Alinister to-night, and urged the deviation of the Rimutaka railway and the construction of a line between AJasterton and AYaipukurau. Air. AlcIvonzio stated that the railway was already constructed oyer the Rimutaka, and be was of opinion that the deviation was a matter for the consideration cf the Alinister for Railways. So far as the railway between Alasterton and Vaipnkurau was concerned, lie stated that the country was held in too large areas and there was tco little population to warrant proceeding with the railway at present. The Alinister leaves for AYellington to-morrow morning.
