VISIT TO MOKAU BRIDGE SITE
IPEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.! - WAITARA, May 5. The Minister of Public Works, accompanied by tbe members for the district amd by county and borough, representatives, went to the site of the or imposed Mokau bridge to-day. The “Waitara Mail's” reporter with the party telegraphed late this afternoon that a deputation met the Minister at Mokau and pressed him for a subsidy of two pounds for every one pound contributed by the local body, but the Minister firmly refused, saying that the most the Government would do would be to grant pound for pound. The party had an experience in the Tongaparutu when, homeward bound through the motor cars being stuck in the mud. Horses were obtained to pull the vehicles out. The Minister was expected to arrive back in Waitara at 4 p.m., but at 6 had not put in an appearance.
