STRATFORD, May 10

The Hon. R. McKenzie and party yesterday went over the line to Whangaaiomona, where they were enthusiastially received and banqueitted. An address of weilbouna ' was presented at Whangamomona. In replying, the Minister stated that ballast trains, at any rate, would be running as far as Whangamomona by Christmas. The Minister went on a tour through the Ohara country to-dav. and expects to reach Wellington on Saturday night. HON. J. A. MILLAR AT DUNEDIN. DUNTDIN, May 10. At the meeting addressed by Hon.. J. A. Millar, the ex-Mayor, Mr Walker, moved and H. W. Mitchell, of St. Kilda, seconded, “That this meeting express a hearty vote of thanks to the Hon. J. A. Millar for his able address, and continued confidence in the Government.” The motion was carried unanimously. In aswer to questions, AH Millar said lie was prepared to vote compensation to the man who was wrong lully convicted at Westport on the evidence of a perjurer. He had' always been strongly opposed to an elective Upper House.
