TOLOGA BAY ITEMS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.h Tologa Bay at present is very quiet, and business people are complaining of money being very scarce. - The weather has been delightful ot late —cold, sharp nights and beautiful warm days, and we are all hoping for a long-continued spell of such weather. The* roads are for the time of year in real good order. The country looks well, reecl being plentiful, and farmers state that thei e will be no scarcity of feed all the wmTlie football season opened here on Saturday, the 6th inst, The Law a station employees . challenged loioga Bay to play them for a dinner. Both teams were very green, appeared to lack condition. The Uawa men were very much the heavier team, but Tologa had a more active lot, and managed to beat the Uawa men _ after a hard struggle by 3 points to nil. Mr. Geo. King, acting as referee, gave everv satisfaction. The dinner was partaken of at Mr. Smith’s boardinghouse, where, I understand, an excellent menu was put before the men, who, no doubt, enjoyed themselves to their utmost.
Mr. John Moore, of Taharangi station, is putting up a very fine residence alongside his present homestead. Mr. G. M. Colebrook is also building a nice cottage on the banks of our lovely Uawa River. Although the shooting season has been open a few days now, I have not heard of any big bags being obtained. Before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M., at a sitting of the Court held here on 3rd inst., Michael Mullooly proceeded against John Maddock on five informations for allowing cattle to stray on the streets, and convictions were obtained on all informations, only nominal fines being imposed. Mr. Maddock proceeded against Mullooly for allowing horses to stray on "the streets (four informations), but only one conviction was recorded, and a nominal fine of 10s with costs imposed.
