SPINSTERS’ BALL AT TE ARAI.

A SUCCESSFUL FEXCTIOX

'Hie above ball was held last Friday, sth inst., and was a great success. Fully 70 couples were invited, and nearly all accepted. Invitations were issued to all parts of the district, and visitors were present from Te Karaka, Waingake, Patutahi, Waerenga-a-hika, Makauri, and Muriwai, while quite a number of town people took advantage of the fine evening and attended. A strong committee of young ladies, consisting of Misses A. O’Brien, J. Kirk, G. Preston, M.’and E. Roberts, G. Graill, B. and K. Daulton, V. Nelson, and L. Peryer, worked hard, and their efforts were more than rewarded.

The joint secretaries, Misses Bertha Daulton and Madalene Roberts, deserve a word of praise for the way their duties were carried out, and also Miss Katie Daulton, who made her first appearance as K.C.—an office which she filled with success, in seeing that all present were supplied with partners. The music was provided by Miss Ivy Kirk, and the name itself is sufficient guarantee of good music. Extras were kindly played by Miss J. Habgood, Messrs. F. and N. Kirk, and Mrs. and Master T. Preston. To describe the dresses is beyond your correspondent—sufficient that some' very pretty and costly dresses were worn. An excellent supper was provided, which all did justice to it. The supper room and table were tastefully decorated with orange and white, which showed off to advantage the many tempting things that the tables were laden with, A long programme of 36 dances was gone through, and as can be expected dawn was appearing over the eastern sky before the happy throng dispersed. Before parting, Mr. W. Daulton, on behalf of the bachelors, in a neat speech, thanked the young ladies for the pleasant evening spent, and at his request three hearty cheers were given; while at the call of Air. Tom Gibson three more were given for the M.C., all agreeing that it was the most successful ball ever held in Te Arai.
