MEETING OF CREDITORS.
ESTATE OF LAWRENCE MAWSON
An adjourned meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Lawrence Mawson, dentist, of Gisborne, was resumed at the office cf the Official Assignee yesterday afternoon, Mr J. Coleman presiding. Mr Stock appeared for Mr Dawson, of Christchurch, he being the only creditor represented. Mr Coleman stated that the former meeting had been adjourned in order to allow bankrupt to ascertain whether he would be able to make any offer, and asked the bankrupt if he had been able to arrange anything which would enable him to make an offer to his creditors.
Bankrupt replied that he could do nothing in the direction. He had wired to Christchurch but had received no reply. As.there had been plenty of time in which to reply he concluded that no support was forthcoming. The Assignee stated that he had himself tried to dispose of the plant and furniture in Gisborne, but that no one seemed to want it, and he was of opinion that it would be best to offer it by auction. In reply to Mr Stock, bankrupt said that some of the back debts had been coming in. but the business had fallen off until he was practically doing nothing.
The Assignee suggested that the best course to adopt, now that bankrupt had found it impossible to make make an offer, was to sell the plant and furnishings as soon as possible, and, with Mr Stock’s concurrence, this was decided uoon.
