TRANSPLANTING KIDNEYS.
AS EASY AS PLUMBING. That the transplanting of human kidneys from a dying to, a living man is simply like a plumber’s job is the de-claration-of Dr A. M. Shipley., professor of surgical pathology at the University Of Maryland. His comment follows the statement of Dr Maurice H. Richardson, of Harvard, that the day was not far distant when healthy kidneys might be taken from persons dying from disease which did not affect those organs, stored, and transplanted later to the bodies of. persons dying for tlie need of healthy kidneys. The transplanting of kidneys,’’ says Dr Sibley, “would doubtless be possible if one obstacle, were overcome, and that obstacle lies in the mere, fitting of the transplanted kidneys to the new body— f practically the same difficulty which a plumber might find* in fitting one pipe to another.”
