GOLF.
FOUR-BALL MATCH. A somewhat novel competition provided the entertainment at the Poverty Bay Golf Club’s links on Saturday afternoon. This took the form of a four-ball match against bogey over 14 holes, omitting holes 2,3, 4, and 5. Players played on their usual club handicaps, the scores of each partner being kept, and the lowest reckoned against bogey. Twenty pairs entered, and the play generally was o.f a. high standard. The winners turned in W. Hamilton Irvine and F. W. Nolan, who returned the good card of 5 up on the Colonel. The best cards returned were as follows : Irvine and Nolan ... 3 up R. Willodk and H. Bennett 3 up N. Bull and Schierning ... 3 up Barns-Graham and E. Traill 2 up G .Millock and W. BWillcck 2 up Burke and Evans ... ... 1 up Busby and Murray ... 1 up Chirnside and S. M. Palmer All square Dodgshun and George ... 1 down Anderson and F. T. Morgan 1 down Gibson and G. Smitli ... 3 down Adair and O’Meara ... 6 down J. H. Bull and Mann ... 6 down There were a good many ladies present during the afternoon, and afternoon tea was kindly provided by Misses Maclean and Pyke.
