SOUTH ISLAND BAND CONTEST.
COMING GATHERING IN CHRISTCHURCH.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION J CHRISTCHURCH. May 2 . 4. deputation representing Liie boutli Island Bands Association waited on the Mayor relative to the band contest to be held in this city in November next ancl asked for bis sympathetic interest in the contest and also asked it he, -would use liis influence to enlist the sympathy of tlie members of the city council to ensure the success of the fixture. Ihe contest would last about- a week. Ih e deputation wished the mayor and city council to interest themselves in the matter and call, a meeting of the public at which a contest, committee would lie appointed. . The Mayor expressed his own .personal sympathy'with the proposal and promised to bring the matter before tlie counW cil at its meeting on Monday evening. He believed that the council would give the project its cordial support, and would endorse suggestions that an invitation be extended to the association to hold its contest in Christchurch.
