THE LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. EPEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 29. The High Commissioner's market report, dated London May 27th, states: — Mutton: There has been a better tone in the market this week. The market is firm. Canterbury is getting very scarce. The lamb market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Large shipments are arriving, but there is a general and active demand.
Beef: The market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers at about quotations already given. South American chilled is in large supply, and is selling at about the same price. Butter : The market is quiet, small business doing. The Ruahine's shipment of butter arrived in good condition. The cheese market continues dull, and has been unfavorably affected by Canadian arrivals. Buyers are more reserved, weak holders giving way. The Ruahine's shipment arrived in good condition.
The hemp market is quiet, but steady. For Manila the market is firmer; it has been favorably affected by an improved American demand, and has advanced on usual prices. The output from Manila for the week was 2000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is very quiet, and nothing is doing. The sowing season has ended. Nominally, bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, is at 77s 6d per cwt. The detailed prices for this week and last week are appended:— Last This

LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the’following cablegram, from their London house: — Wool sales over. 38,000 bales wool Jield, 163,000 bales sold, 69,000' bales for the 'Continent. Sales closed with good competition. 2000 bales taken for America. As compared with last sales closing rates prices are about par to 5 per cent, lower for merino medium and inferior and fine scoured crossbred, fine greasy crossbred, medium crossbred slipe. fine crossbred slipe, medium greasy crossbred, medium scoured crossbred. Prices are about the same for coarse scoured) crossbred and coarse crossbred slipe. Prices are about .par to 5 per cent, higher for coarse greasy crossbred.
