The' annual conference of the South Canterbury Farmers’ Union-, which was largeU attended, discussed affiliation with the Employers’ Union, which was disappoved of for fear of' being involved in an industrial award. A proposal to form a political party connected with the union was also disapproved'.of, but it was decided to refer the information on the subject to the different branches for consideration. Several farmers expressed strong objection to the new. railway regulation regarding the delivery of "goods at small stations on certain days only, asi it might cause inconvenience when goods are wanted urgently, such as bags at- tihresliinw time. Mr John Talbot was re-elected president. and is to be the- representative at the Dominion Conference. ' At a snbseqeunt luncheon, ,Mr Turner, the president of the local Employers’ Association, assured famine ts that, thev wanted 1 as little to do with the Arbitration: Court as possible. A freezing works manager said that these establishments had to work under no less than sixteen awards.
