POVERTY BAY HUNT CLUB

A meet of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club took place at Awapuni yesterday. The weather was favorable, and a good number followed the hounds. The hounds threw off at 11 a.m., and a. hare was soon started which set the field a merry chase in a circle for about three miles. A couple of boggy creeks proved difficult obstacles, but were safely negotiated. Wire jumps abounded, _ and a couple of spills occurred, but neither rider ’suffered injury. After puss had doubled back almost to where she had

started from, slie managed to evade the hounds and got away. Soon afterwards another har& was started, and away the field went onto again on a rattling run of about inree and a-half miles straight out towards the abattoirs. The fences en route were stiff ones, and a. few rather bad spills occurred. Mrs Gaddum’s horse came down at a wire jump, and the lady was thrown, but was up again instantly. ?v. de Lautour was not so fortunate, as he received a fall which stunned him for a time. P. Walsh, the Huntsman, also came to grief at a wire jump. After a good hard run, a kill took place in the swamp. Among those out were W. G. Slierratt (Master). H. de Lautour (deputy-mas-ter), P.
