NEW ZEALAND’S MAIL SERVICE.

WELLINGTON, June 'B. 7 At a meeting ; of the Council of the Chamber cf Commerce yesterday, the question of mail connection between Australia and New Zealand was considered. The consensus of opinion was that the needs of the Dominion as a whole would be best served if the inward European mail which now leaves Sydney for Auckland on Wednesday were to leave Sydney for Wellington direct on Monday. It would then, in the ordinary course, reach Wellington on Friday forenoon, Auckland on Saturday morning,' and Dunedin on Saturday eveping, which would be a great advantage in every direction. The Council felt that if such a change in the intercolonial steamer’s time-table involved any extra expense the cost might fairly be met by a subsidy, and to effect this it was decided to approach the Government and steamship companies concerned.
