THE HOUSE ON THE HILL.
WELLINGTON’S WIRELESS
. An inquiry was made the other day from the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department as to when the wireless telegraph plant in Wellington would be available for commercial purposes. The answer was that tlie present plant was fitted with certain parts which had been made here, but to get the host results they were now awaiting Telefunken parts'to replace those in use temporarily. These were expected to arrive from Australia by any boat now, and would be fitted at once on their arrival, when an announcement would be made for the guidance of the general publip. The sketch plans of .the new wireless station on the Tinakori Hills have been completed, and after being submitted to the Minister in charge for approval, the work in connection with their erection will be commenced forthwith. Tlie building will be a one-storied structure of rubble concrete, to he erected on an extra strong foundation on account of the exposed position. It will have a frontage of 50 feet by a depth of 20 feet,, and will contain a motor-room, an accumlator room, an operating room, bedroom, sitting-room, and kitchen. The building will face the city and the harbor, and will be erected with the two 165 ft. poles which are to carry the aerial wires. Tlie poles will be of Oregon pine (in three splices), strongly bolted together, and the conveyor wire will drop from the aerials directly in the centre into the operating room, j The quarters are mot to be erected with any idea of show. Stability, comfort, and convenience will be the three chief characteristics of the first wireless station in New Zealand.
