, THE DAVIS CUP CONTEST. TWO OFFERS FROM CHRISTCHURCH. TPER PRESS ASSOCIATION J CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. Ati a meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association to-night, it was reported regarding the holding of the Davis Cup competition at Christchurch that the Lancascter Park Board of Control would offer the Australasian Association £SOO for the contest, the Board to -rovide a first-class ground thoroughly suitable for such a contest, and to pay all cost of stands, advertising, preparation of grounds, etc., and pay the Australasian Association the clear sum of £SOO, and take the whole ' f the takings from all' sources. In case this offer should not meet with the of the Australasian Association, the Canterbury Association obtained from the Board of Control of the Lancaster Park the following alternative offer: To provide and prepare a ground for nlay, as in the offer already set out, that the cost of the stand accommodation for, say 4000 people, the expenses of advertisin'” and the atekeeners’ wages, to be a first char.o-e on the gate takings, the Board of Control to take 20 per cent of the net takings, leavin 80 uer cent for the Association.
