BABIES MIXED.
MISTAKEN IDENTITY IN SCOTCH ' HOSPITAL.
.An extraordinary case of mistaken identity, caused by 4 the mixing up of babies in a Glasgow hospital, was reported a week or two ago. It was alleged that- a two-year-old child named Georgina Fyfe. daughter of parents residing in the Townend district, was removed to the hospital some time ago suffering from bronchitis and whooping cough. At the same time a child of almost similar age, named Matilda Fyfe, belonging to parents residing in Bridgeton, was admitted to the same ward. When the children were sufficiently well to be removed the Bridgeton parents called, but the mother immediately repudiated the child offered to her, and it was under protest that she took it away. Her husband, however, refused to accept the child as his, and a photograph of hi 6 daughter Georgina was sufficient to prove to all concerned that the child offered to him was not his.
The Townhead parents searched every quarter of the city for several days, and at length the services of the detective department were enlisted, and the Bridgeton couple were traced to a house in the city. About two o’clock on a recent, morning the babies were exchanged, to the delight of the respective parents.
