“ MADE IN NEW ZEALAND.”

MESSRS WACKY, LOGAN, CALDWELL’S (LTD.)- EXHIBITS.

INDUSTRIES WEEK IN AUCKLAND,

A MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY

(From the Auckland "Herald.’,’)

The display m tlie Auckland shop windows last week .(Coronation week) ot goods manufactured in New Zealand lias been an 1 object-lesson to residents of, and visitors . to, the city, and is bound to result in- benefit to the whole community. The wide range and high quality of the , articles shown should certainly result in more attention being paid to locally-made goods, especially when it is realised that the New Zealand commodity is quite equal, if not superior, to that produced abroad. Another advantage that will, no doubt, appeal to all patriotic New Zealanders is the fact that all the money spent m encouraging "the local industries will be circulated within the Dominion. The Industrial Association’s efforts to make the goods manufactured in New Zealand known to the people Jiave been definitely crowned with sucless. A Strikmgjbi lustration. The popularity of the goods supplied' by the house of Macky, Logan, and Caldwell continued to necessitate further extension of the business premises from time to time, and- to-day the firm lias an area of 55,000 square feet of floor space in Auckland alone for the carrying on of their great business. Besides the Auckland premises the firm has magnificent buildings, known as the King’s Chambers, in Wellington, opposite the Bank of New Zealand, and there are smaller branches in Gisborne, Napier, and New Plymouth.

Exit ths SKioddy Article. Some years ago! the people were prejudiced against bijying articles made in New Elr a long while manufacturers ill New {Zealand confined' their attention to- the froduction of a shoddy article, and Messrs Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., Jwere ianiong the first to realise that’ in with sweated labor failiup would be the resuit. The .firm tlwri decided to go in for the manufacture of the better class of goods. Thew found that the New Zealand artichjrcompared favorably with anything frodf therHome markets, and the motto op the firm has been to turn out an a rifle I e without blemish, and' to sell at tine lowestgpossible price. Their enterprise exceedsaill anticipations. The people of New, Zealand have changed their ideas, and tffey now prefer to buy goods made in Nmv- Zealand. To such an extent have tlfe public been brought to realise the quality of the New Zealand made goods jihat Messrs Macky, Logan, and Cald|vell, Ltd., have now had to build four large factories in Auckland suburbs. These factories give employment to a large number of hands, and one can realise the immense advantages accruing to the community from all the profits from these manufacturing places, being -retained in the country. As showing the large extent of the business, goods to the value of over £IOO,OOO were turned out from ■ -these factories last year. Class of Coods Manufactured. Tlie chief articles manufactured by Messrs Macky, Logan, and Cakhfpll are boys’ and men’s clothing. Thes||goods, which are now largely sought afjer, are known as the "Cambridge'’ brand. The quality of "Cambridge” shirts, J|n other speciality of the firm,. is well-known throughout the Dominion.,* Al|«classes gf. ladies’ cotton fffijderclojfiinfMknowTi as tlie "Classic” JsJ|nd, a®- ai|m manufactured I bOvt-lny' fpi. The firm have' no#been able to make arrangements forA display of ladies' cotton underclothing owing to the large number of orders that have to be fulfilled. Orders A.- hand will keep the factory very busy right up to Christmas. ‘‘ReajdHo-Wear’' Costumes. The "(pfassic'’ “ready-to-wear” costumes proving a strong rival to the tailor-made garments. These are made in the Dominion at the factories of Messrs Macky, 'Logan, and’ Caldwell, Ltd. The “ready-to-wear” costumes have become much greater than the supply. It is not the matter of cheapness that appeals so much to the ladies, as it is quite possible to get "ready-to-wear’’ costumes up to and even over, ten guineas in the shops in Auckland. But the opportunity of . obtaining a first-class costume, fashionably cut and in all respects equal to the tailor-made garment, at a couple of hours’ notice, has distinct advantages in these days when time is of value. There is a fine display of these costumes, both serge and tweed, in Messrs ' Milne and j C'hoyce’s windows, and 1 -even the uninitiated can tell that they are of high 1 quality,- and in the height of fashion. A speciality in golf skirts, with an at-

tabbed tweed belt and patch pocket, calls for particular mention. All the costumes shown in Messrs Milne arid Choyce’s window are iriade absolutely from New Zealand w6oL ‘'Cambridge” Shirts. Owing to the high quality of "Cambridge” shirts Messrs Macky, Logan, and Caldwell have had to quadruple the size of their shirt factory, and they are now in a position to supply demands from all 'parts of the Dominion. It seems now hardly necessary to- draw attention to the finish and general quality of these shirts. , Displays of the "Cambridge” shirts are made in a large number -of shops in the city. In the Queenstreet shops displays are made by Messrs J. Turner, Hugh, might, Baynes Bros., Fry and Potter, and,# Smith and Caugliey. In Newton the firms displaying the shirts are Messrs George ‘Court and 86ns and Ernes#Gribble, and Mr Wm. Smith has aifvindow display at Ponsonby. Attent&m is drawn to- the fact that, at Smitjy and Caughey’s a demonstration, of me mechanical sewingon of shirt-JjutiSms, as well as of but-ton-holing, lis#being given. Menjifand Boys’ Clothing. Altliougir the manufacture of men’s and boys’ clothing is the largest industry’carried on by the firm, these good’s are only being shown in three windows —viz., those -of Messrs Geo. Fowlds, F'ry and Potter, and Hugh Wright. These goods, although they are made in factories, are finished by tailors, and in all essentials are certainly equal to (lie tailor-made garment. They are made in all sizes, and it is. possible to obtain smart-fitting "Cambridge” suits for the youngsters as well as for adults. Large selections of- the firm’s manufactures are made in tlie. windows mentioned.

Messrs Macky.. Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., as is well known, liave an importantbranch- in Gisborne, of which Mr R. W. Kyme is the manager.
