DEMOCRATIC MONARCH.
KING, QUEEN, AND PEOPLE.
QUEEN MARY NOT A SOCIETY WOMAN.
Two interesting character sketches of the King and the Queen by the editor of the “Daily News,” are published in that journal. The point is emphasised that King George is eminently a man of the midcllo class His Majesty, says the writer, loves to be among the people, his comradeship with whom springs from a genuine fellow-feeling and a desire to win their goodwill, although lie is fully conscious that he lacks Kis father’s royal road to their hearts.
The Queen likewise, it is pointed out, is strongly in sympathy with, the middle class.
Referring to her Majesty’s seriousness, shyness, and sense or duty, the writer declares that Queen Mary is about the only woman in society who cannot be called a society woman.
